South Africa administered 130 514 COVID-19 vaccine doses on Wednesday, which pushed the total to 23 540 547.
According to the Department of Health, of the new distributed doses, 119 505 were given to adults, while 11 009 went to children aged between 12 and 17.

In addition, there are now 13 124 865 adults who are fully vaccinated, while 241 661 children have already received their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Meanwhile, the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases identified in South Africa is 2 924 622 with 305 new cases reported in the past 24 hours.

The four Moti brothers who were abducted in Limpopo in October, have been reunited with their family, the South African Police Service (SAPS) said.

In a statement on Thursday, the SAPS confirmed that Zidan, Zayyad, Alaan and Zia Moti, all aged between 6 -15 years old were reunited with their family on Wednesday night.

The brothers were on their way to school in Polokwane at approximately 7am on Wednesday, 20 October 2021, when they were taken at gunpoint by their abductors. A group of men with rifles and handguns cornered their vehicle and forcefully removed them.

“Last night the police in Vuwani received a call from a local resident saying that the children arrived at their house saying they were dropped off on a nearby road. Police arranged a doctor who confirmed that the children are in good health before they were handed over to their parents,” said Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo.

Medical experts say it is beneficial to take the COVID-19 vaccine, as they try to address vaccine hesitancy.

According to the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority’s (SAHPRA) Pharmacovigilance Manager, Mafora Matlala, adverse side effects is one of the leading drivers of vaccine hesitancy.

The drug watchdog’s data shows that some of the top adverse events following immunisation (AEFI) for COVID-19 include headache, local reaction, fever and dizziness.

South Africa is now home to over 13 million adults who are fully vaccinated.

This comes after 98 954 adults got the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine or the second shot of the Pfizer jab in the past 24 hours. According to the Department of Health’s data, this pushes the total to 13 030 588 or 32.5% of the adult population who are now fully jabbed.  

Meanwhile, the country distributed 126 231 vaccine shots on Tuesday, of which 115 966 were given to the over 18s and 10 265 to children aged between 12 and 17.
