VaxuMzansi is a campaign by the Religious Forum Against COVID-19 that aims to vaccinate up to 70% of their congregations and the communities in which they serve. Studies show that if 67,7% of the South African population vaccinate, we can reach population-wide immunity, drastically reducing COVID-19 hospitalisation and death rates

As the religious sector, we aim to play our part by encouraging vaccine uptake. To achieve this, we are running a series of vaccine events, which will be hosted among local religious groups.

There are now 184 222 vaccinated children aged between 12 and 17 in South Africa, of which 13 569 received the single dose of the Pfizer vaccine on Thursday.

According to the Department of Health, the country administered 152 049 jabs in the past 24 hours, pushing the total doses to 22 965 123 since the start of the vaccination rollout programme.

In addition, South Africa now has 12 737 700 or 31.8% fully vaccinated adults.

There were 26.1-million voters registered for these elections. Approximately 370 000 were registered in the pre-approved MEC 7 list. A total of  12.3 million South Africans voted in these elections.

It is my honour to provide the country with a national overview of the outcome of these elections.

In terms of the 213 municipalities contested:

The African National Congress achieved a majority in 161 Municipalities
The Democratic Alliance achieved a majority in 13 Municipalities
And the Inkatha Freedom Party achieved a majority in 10 municipalities.
In 66 municipalities no party achieved a majority – which are known as hung councils.

South Africa administered 158 787 COVID-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours, bringing the total doses to 22 799 682.

The Department of Health’s latest data shows that of the jabs administered on Wednesday, 145 828 were given to adults, while 12 959 were received by children aged between 12 and 17.

In addition, the country is now home to 12 620 892 or 31.4% fully vaccinated adults out of the 40 million government is targeting.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will later today, Thursday 04 November 2021, attend the Independent Electoral Commission’s (IEC) announcement of the final results of the 2021 Municipal Elections.

The announcement ceremony, which will be broadcast live, commences at 18h00.

The picture of who will run the country’s 278 municipalities became clearer as vote counting in the 2021 Local Government Elections reached 69% on Wednesday morning.

On Tuesday, the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) had aimed to complete 90% of vote counting by that evening. 

However, the IEC in a statement on Wednesday said at the level of capturing, 90% of results were already in the system awaiting scanning and auditing.

This translated to 58 059 of the 64 502 expected results been captured in the results system.

It said: “Of the 58 059 results captured, 44 707 have been scanned into an image and thus available”.
