Pope Francis has inaugurated the path towards the Synod on Synodality

To enrich our “journeying together” as the pilgrim and missionary People of God, the Jesuit Conference of Africa and Madagascar (JCAM) is partnering with the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) to provide resources that will enable the local churches, in the region and entire Africa, to engage fruitfully and constructively in this synodal process.
 
In a YouTube episode, Jesuits Africa asked some African religious and youth what Synodality means for them.

Prayer by SACLI for local government elections in SA

Read the prayer below:

“Almighty and Loving God.
As the cloud of witnesses watches over us on 1 November.
As people exercise their democratic right to vote.
As some decide to not exercise their responsibility.
As people and parties compete against each other.
As emotions run high.
As election officials and others do their duties.
As politicians express words that may inflame and divide.
We offer these elections to you.
Knowing that you can take it, break it and bless it.
And form a new communion and communities
Out of our brokenness. Amen.”

The SACLI was started in 2013 “to be the voice of hope and prophecy in and for South Africa” and to be “a bridge in the church”.

Cape Town Pastor in the spotlight for giving away cars to churchgoers

However, in a round of Facebook posts, Kyle Driver, Pastor at Revival Harvest International, started giving cars to churchgoers as “gifts from God”.
 
“Today we were blessed again to give away another car to a wonderful couple in our church,” the pastor said in a Facebook post dating back October 10. “They are our youth leaders and this is the 3rd car we have given away and we plan to give away more. We thank God for His blessing. We are only getting started. The day will come where we will give away houses,” he said.
 
“Poverty is a curse and you can break it off by becoming a giver,” he added.

All want dialogue, but there is no consensus on how it should be held

This was said by South African Bishop Sithembele Sipuka, who is the President of the Southern African Catholic Bishops Conference. 

He said this during a press conference held at the Roman Catholic Bishop’s House in Manzini yesterday and this was after the SACBC’s week-long fact-finding mission about the ongoing turmoil in the Kingdom of Eswatini.

Catholic leaders demand answers on fossil fuels

A total of 78 leaders from G20countries, which includes 7 bishops from SACBC decided to send a petition on 30-31 October to end the use of fossil fuels once and for all.

 
The call follows on from Pope Francis’ statement with faith leaders asking for urgent action to be taken to protect “Our common Home” and help fight the climate crisis.
