Eskom Chief Executive André de Ruyter says the power utility does not expect to implement any load shedding this weekend.
This after the country was subjected to load shedding for most of this week including the longer and more frequent Stage Four.

The South African Council of Churches (SACC) joins the rest of South Africans in expressing our condolences to the De Klerk family on the passing away of Mr F.W. De Klerk. Mr De Klerk will be remembered for the decision he took to persuade his ruling National Party to abandon the injurious policies of apartheid that dehumanised millions of his fellow citizens for decades in what was described by the United Nations as a crime against humanity.
The SACC embraced the changes that Mr De Klerk brought about, beginning with the unbanning of liberation movements and the release of political prisoners – and notably Nelson Mandela who spent his first night of freedom at the home of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, former General Secretary of the SACC who defended the churches against the apartheid government’s attacks; in his famous statement to the Eloff Commission, titled “Divine Intention”.
We are heartened that Mr De Klerk departed in a spirit that was at one with the best instincts of justice, recognising and admitting the horrible injustices of apartheid. Of course there may be reason to also look at those aspects of apartheid dirty tricks that he may have been part of in government, but this is not the time.
The country remains dangerously splintered and variously wounded; and his passing should rather offer us all a moment to pluck up the courage to build a common South African identity beyond the apartheid legacy of racial and ethnic divisions that now define our politics.
We extend our pastoral hand to the De Klerk family and the De Klerk Foundation at this difficult time.

“It is with the deepest sadness that the FW de Klerk Foundation must announce that former President FW de Klerk died peacefully at his home in Fresnaye earlier this morning following his struggle against mesothelioma cancer. Mr De Klerk was 85 years old,” the FW De Klerk Foundation said in a statement.
“He is survived by his wife Elita, his children Jan and Susan and his grandchildren. The family will, in due course, make an announcement regarding funeral arrangements.”

Loadshedding has been downgraded from Stage 3 to Stage 2 at 12:00 on Thursday afternoon.
On Thursday, Eskom announced that Stage 2 would be implemented from midday and that power cuts would end on Friday at 5am.

South Africa administered 130 514 COVID-19 vaccine doses on Wednesday, which pushed the total to 23 540 547.
According to the Department of Health, of the new distributed doses, 119 505 were given to adults, while 11 009 went to children aged between 12 and 17.
In addition, there are now 13 124 865 adults who are fully vaccinated, while 241 661 children have already received their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
Meanwhile, the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases identified in South Africa is 2 924 622 with 305 new cases reported in the past 24 hours.

The four Moti brothers who were abducted in Limpopo in October, have been reunited with their family, the South African Police Service (SAPS) said.
In a statement on Thursday, the SAPS confirmed that Zidan, Zayyad, Alaan and Zia Moti, all aged between 6 -15 years old were reunited with their family on Wednesday night.
The brothers were on their way to school in Polokwane at approximately 7am on Wednesday, 20 October 2021, when they were taken at gunpoint by their abductors. A group of men with rifles and handguns cornered their vehicle and forcefully removed them.
“Last night the police in Vuwani received a call from a local resident saying that the children arrived at their house saying they were dropped off on a nearby road. Police arranged a doctor who confirmed that the children are in good health before they were handed over to their parents,” said Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo.

“We are in a climate emergency,” urges the message, which was read by Rev. James Bhagwan, general secretary of the Pacific Conference of Churches, on behalf of the group. “Fixated on profit, our extractive and ultimately unsustainable systems of production and consumption have led us today to this climate emergency.”
The message notes that humanity has been gifted with the ability to think and the freedom to choose.

Medical experts say it is beneficial to take the COVID-19 vaccine, as they try to address vaccine hesitancy.
According to the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority’s (SAHPRA) Pharmacovigilance Manager, Mafora Matlala, adverse side effects is one of the leading drivers of vaccine hesitancy.
The drug watchdog’s data shows that some of the top adverse events following immunisation (AEFI) for COVID-19 include headache, local reaction, fever and dizziness.
