International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted

This November, millions of Christians worldwide will unite for one cause: to join the global Body of Christ for the 2021 International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted (IDOP). The number one thing persecuted Christians ask for is prayer, and we want to equip you to be able to meet their request.

Each year, in preparation for the first or second Sunday of November, ICC assembles a unique resource kit for both churches and individuals on the plight of the persecuted.

Pharmaceuticals is an exciting new area of growth – Ramaphosa

In his latest newsletter, President Cyril Ramaphosa said: “Aspen Pharmacare recently launched its R3.4 billion expansion, which it announced at the 2018 Investment Conference. This investment has turned Aspen’s Gqeberha manufacturing facility into one of largest global manufacturing hubs for general anesthetics and has also provided capacity over 100 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine have been produced under contract.

The World Health Organization also chose South Africa to host an mRNA vaccine manufacturing hub with the Biovac Institute, which is a public-private partnership with government. South African-born Dr Patrick Soon-Shiong and his company NantWorks recently announced an ambitious initiative to build capacity for advanced health care in Africa. In addition to the investments they will bring, these developments will also contribute to our collective ambition for the continent to manufacture 60% of its vaccine needs by 2040.”

Prayers for young people welcomed by SACLI

The South African Christian Leadership Initiative (SACLI) posted on Twitter that the Taizé-style prayers for young people between 18 – 35 years of age is  happening at Volmoed, Hermanus and Ha Phororo, Hartebeespoortdam on November 27.
The theme is: “Hope through the Body and Blood”.

A right to bury foetuses: Constitutional Court reserves judgment

On Thursday 4 November 2021 the Constitutional Court in South Africa sat to decide on the ratification of the high court’s declaration that the legislation that prevents the burying of foetuses under 26 weeks is unconstitutional.

While the Church argues the dignity of a human person from conception, the opposing government argues administrative burden and emotions.

JUST IN: Stage 4 loadshedding to be implemented at 14:00

“Regretfully Stage 4 loadshedding will be implemented from 14:00 on Friday until 05:00 on Saturday; thereafter Stage 2 loadshedding will continue until 05:00 on Monday,” the power utility, Eskom, wrote in a post on Twitter.

Take action against COVID-19, asks SACC

VaxuMzansi is a campaign by the Religious Forum Against COVID-19 that aims to vaccinate up to 70% of their congregations and the communities in which they serve. Studies show that if 67,7% of the South African population vaccinate, we can reach population-wide immunity, drastically reducing COVID-19 hospitalisation and death rates

As the religious sector, we aim to play our part by encouraging vaccine uptake. To achieve this, we are running a series of vaccine events, which will be hosted among local religious groups.

Over 184 200 children now vaccinated in SA

There are now 184 222 vaccinated children aged between 12 and 17 in South Africa, of which 13 569 received the single dose of the Pfizer vaccine on Thursday.

According to the Department of Health, the country administered 152 049 jabs in the past 24 hours, pushing the total doses to 22 965 123 since the start of the vaccination rollout programme.

In addition, South Africa now has 12 737 700 or 31.8% fully vaccinated adults.

SA gears up for 16 Days of Activism

The South African Government will participate in the 16 Days of Activism of No Violence against Women and Children campaign from 25 November to 10 December 2021.

According to the Minister in the Presidency, Mondli Gungubele, who was addressing the media on the outcomes of the Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, the United Nations campaign will heighten awareness of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) in the country.

The 16 Days campaign forms the centre point of government’s comprehensive 365 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the global 16 Days campaign.
